After reading Bazerman, Bitzer, the Book of Genres, my definition of genre would be that genre is a way to organize, categorize, and describe types of communication along with composition. Discourse communities are strongly influenced by genres. I feel like most discourse communities become because of certain genres. For example, health care workers are a discourse community that all work in health care, which could be considered a genre or they all have to follow certain texts that apply to healthcare workers which fall under the same genre.

For major assignment 3, I chose religion and family as genres. These are two important parts of most people lives, so I felt like it could make it more relatable and intriguing for students to read.
